Linux -> Parents -> Child -> Web Browser Content Filter -> Safe Blacklist -> Keywords
Today I was reading article about how to protect children against the obscene and dangerous web sites coming trough the Internet to our homes. There are many techniques how to achieve this goal. People with technical prepositions have a options to filter content via proxy server, use modems with web content filters features or use front-end tools like FoxFilter extension for FireFox web browser.
The interesting part here is that I believe that many parents does not have that skills to engage such a filter and the only thing they can manage to do is to unplug modem from the power socket. Some people are technically skilled, but they are using windows which keeps them blind from all technical knowledge otherwise available to all *unix* users, so they have a similar problem. Only people which have the skills, knowledge and will to do something about web content filtering are people which does not use windows.
As a stubborn Linux user I believe that our children should browse safe and in the same time gather all useful knowledge available on the Internet. So here is my tip for blacklist of forbidden keywords and safe browsing.
Firstly I will blacklist following keywords:
sex nude porn xrated lingerie naked xxx
In the second step of keeping my child safe from nasty pages and educate them at the same time I will re-enforce this filter with following keywords:
Microsoft windows XP drivers freeware trial beta directX “Microsoft help and support” shareware exe folder service pack “windows server” IIS win*
Any other ideas how to make my blacklist of keywords even more safer is highly appreciated.
Have a safe Internet browsing !!!
